Memorial Day

I LOVE Memorial Day! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have a day to remember those who have passed on. I love being with family! This is the first time we've been home for Memorial Day since we moved to Philadelphia. I've missed the traveling from cemetery to cemetery with family to place flowers on grave sites.

Even though we had just left Doug in Montana the day before, it was a FANTASTIC day! I was able to meet my cousin's fiance, see my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Bob who I haven't seen for almost four years, and who doesn't love the good food that comes with getting together with family? It could have only been better had Doug been there, but we won't dwell on the negative.

Here are some pictures from our Memorial Day 2009:

Mom or Grandma Anderson and Shaylynn

Josh (Kerry's son), Aunt Kerry, and Aunt Kathy

Weston, Jessica, and Grandma or "Big Grandma" to the girls

Shaylynn placing flowers on her Great-Grandpa Jensen's grave.

Mom, Aunt Kathy, Uncle Bob's arm, Corrinne (Adam's fiance), Adam (Kathy's son), Dad

I love how through the Gospel we know that we'll see our loved ones again. That is why we can look so happy on a day when we remember those who have left us.

Miriam and her uncle Weston

Should I be embarrassed that my brother and daughters were playing at the cemetery? This is nothing, you should have seen him spinning them around and then making them walk around dizzy. Sheesh!

Weston snapped this lovely picture of me. I really do love Memorial Day, I promise!

Kai, Dad or Grandpa Anderson, Shaylynn, Miriam, Mom or Grandma Anderson
This is where my grandparents are buried. These are the hardest graves to visit because I remember EVERYTHING about their deaths.

Miriam with her namesake. When we were trying to think of a middle name for Miriam my dad suggested Alice after his grandmother. It was the perfect fit! My dad adored his grandmother and it was special for him to have someone named after her.

I'm so glad you got to be with your family! As much as I wish you were here, I'm glad you are close to them while Doug is gone, and your girls certainly look like they are having fun! Wow, your hair is so long! Very pretty!

I look forward to Memorial Day, too. The last couple of years have been a bit of a downer, though because I haven't been able to visit graves with family.
You all look like you're having fun.

Looks like you had a very nice Memorial Day. It sure makes me homesick to see pictures of Idaho, but at the same time, I love it!

I haven't been around for memorial day for a long time. At Christmas time we visit the graves of both of our brothers. It has become one of my most favorite and spiritual expereinces at Christmas time. It is really special to be able to share those special experiences with our children too.
